ZOOM Meeting 04-19-2024 Answered Questions: There are only 4 public domain communication bands that have been mentioned to the group so far, They are the Citizen Band (CB), the Family Radio Service (FRS) band, the General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) band and the Multi User Radio Service Band (MURS). Anybody can talk on these Bands and they have nothing to do with Amateur Radio. However the GMRS band is unique because the government wants you to pay them to use it. It use to be free but somewhere around 2020 during the Biden Administration the government decided it wanted to create another revenue source so they could do whatever governments do. Ham radio has been mentioned because the radio I'm recommending can do the FRS, GMRS, and MURS bands and much more including a couple of big time amateur bands called (2 neters VHF) and (70 cm UHF). Amateur Radio alias (HAM Radio) just offers more that some people will want to take advantage of. However Amateur Radio requires a test be taken which some people run from because they think it is something too difficult for them to do. Well it is not too difficult and the Technician License is the most popular Amateur Radio license because it is easy to past the test. 	ZOOM Meeting 04-28-2024 ACT (Alternateive Communication Technique) clarification: ACT is a group effort for a state wide and possibly bigger ACT family of like minded thinkers. It starts with just two people in communication with one another in a community. A community can start anywhere. In Lincoln, in Manchester, in Rutland, and possibly Bridgewater are examples. A starting community of two can expand to three, four or more people having similar interest of being in contact with others should we ever lose the internet and cell phones. Although just having these ACT devices can be fun and useful tools in many other ways other than just being used in an emergency or crises. Working with HF (Health Freedom) and VTSUP (Vermont Stand Up) groups that already exist is a great way to grow this effort. Much more can be said about ACT (Alternative Communication Technique) and participating in the biweekly Zoom meetings is a good place to start. Antenna Information Better reception and longer range can be had with a better antenna. A primary source for these antennas can be from direct purchase at AMAZON, EBay, and various internet sources such as AliExpres.
